The Weepies

A friend of mine has recently directed me to this band and I have gotta say, they are amazing.  Think of the magic numbers duo, but then think of the duo, but better, you getting me? You will!

The reason that many of you won’t have heard of them is because they are one of the many American bands that just have not broken through to the British music industry. But, this is not to say that they have not had many acheievements and even a few gigs over here in the UK. The now husband and wife made it big over in America in 2006,after being signed to Nettwerk label. They not only got shortlisted for a music award by Snow patrol member, Gary Lightbody, but they were also asked by Mandy Moore to write and sing on her album. (well, she had to make her album at least a little bit good somehow) 2006 was also the year they performed at the Oxygen festival in Ireland and T in the Park in Scotland. After their big year with much to be celebrated they took some time off and in this break they got married and had a little baby boy.

Lucy Schwartz

A relatively new talent to the scene, but you may have already heard some of her songs without realising it. If you have seen the film, “The Women” you may well have heard two of her, “Beautiful” and “Count on me” which she wrote and sung for the blockbuster. Her songs have also been featured on the likes of; Private Practise, Reaper, South beach and most recently, Grey’s Anatomy.

Ellie Goulding

This is what I like to see, a new style of music being experimented with and Ellie Goulding, with the help of Frankmusik, is certainly breaking the mould of generic singers.

At the age of 22, she has not only won the Critic’s choice award at the Brits, but she has also be named number one for the BBC sound of 2010, as announced this morning. With the previous winners being the likes of, Mika, Adele and Little Boots, she has a lot to live up to, but she is already proving she is more than just a pretty face from Herefordshire. Her debut single “Under the sheets” uses a mixture of folk, electronic and pop to create a unique sound that compliments her amazing voice. Her debut album, “Lights” is due to be released on 1st March and judging by her debut single and the fact she has already performed in Later with Jools Holland, Ellie Goulding is surely going to be the name on everyone’s lips in 2010.

Her debut single is available for download from iTunes or you can listen to it from her myspace page as well as a few other tracks, so go and have a listen and tell me what you think of this new artist.

Velo

Any followers of this blog may have remembered one of my first posts was of a band called Palladium. Since then, the band has split to pursue individual projects. But, recently I have managed to track down their ex lead singer, Pete Cochrane, who along with Sie Medway-Smith has set up a new band called Velo. This band exudes uniqueness, with an electric feel to their music. They have a few songs posted on Myspace which you can listen to here. I reccomend Perfect Twisted world which has an electronic, 80s, uplifting feel to it, and for those fans of Palladium I would definitely reccomend White Nights which has an air of Peter’s previous band. These guys are set for big things with their brilliant lyrics and catchy melodies, these are songs which could easily exceed former projects

Although not on tour at present, they are in rehearsals for their debut performance at one of London’s biggest club nights in February.  If this was not enough for the London lads they have recently completed a remix for Ellie Goulding, another rising star who came out top in BBC sound of 2010. Surely, with these starter markers for their career they can only excel, only time will tell! In the meantime, watch this space!!!

It’s back!!!

I have decided that I should start this blog up again, I have another blog running at the same time but I have more time now to focus on projects I felt that this was a good project to work on. This was originally a university to project. I am still at uni but have decided to continue this as I feel I found a lot of good new music through it and the more music I find the more I can share with you guys. So here is to a new decade and a remoulded, better undiscovered music blog, enjoy!!!
