As you may be able to tell from my blog, the main genres I enjoy listening to are acoustic, pop and indie. But, that’s not to say I don’t enjoy listening to rock music sometimes. So, takedown for me was not only a music festival but a further insight into the world of rock and metal, and wow was it music overload but for all the right reasons.

Takedown Festival 2014

As you may know from previous posts, one thing I really enjoy being able to do is promote local music. This time I can go one better!

On 15th March, Southampton University will be host to Takedown Festival 2014.

This event is host not only to well know bands such as Kids in Glass Houses and Funeral for a Friend but also to many local bands such as 6 Minutes to Sunrise, who I have previously reviewed and Seasons in Wreckage who are based in Portsmouth.

Doors open at 13:30 and there will be lots more bands playing throughout the day.

Tickets are available through the official website (www.takedownfestival.co.uk)

So, if you want a day filled with good music, both on a local and national level, what are you waiting for?

6 Minutes to Sunrise at the Joiners, Southampton- 4th Feb 2014

6 Mins to Sunrise Gig

It may only be February, but 6 Minutes to Sunrise are already set to take 2014 by storm. Having recently supported bands including; Max Raptor, We are Fiction and Attention Thieves, they came back to perform once again at the Joiners to support Lonely the Brave.

The band has previously played to a sold out crowd at the Joiners so they are no stranger to this venue or a large audience; this is clearly evident through the band’s stage presence, and the lead singer, Cameron’ charisma and energy throughout the gig which helped  captivate the audience.

BBC Sound of 2014 – Top 5!!!

I was inspired to do this blog post after reading my friend, Mr Brawny’s post on  his blog (Brawny: Life, thoughts and drunken ramblings) about  the nominees at the Brit awards. So I thought I would do one for BBC Sound of 2014 as this very much applies to my blog.

By the way his blog is very good so once you have read mine you should definitely go have a read.

It’s that time of year again, a short time ago BBC announced their Top 5 for BBC Sound of 2014, including their winner. This is quite an influential list because previous winners have often gone on to become pretty big. Previous champions include; Little Boots, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J. So, this is quite a good indicator of finding out who we are going to be hearing more of in 2014.

6 Minutes to Sunrise

6 mins final

One thing I really enjoy being able to do on this blog is promoting local bands and artists. If you listen to a great local band, it is that much better than someone from a different area, in my opinion. It makes you like your city that little bit more as you know that at the very least it produces some decent music. This is certainly something 6 Minutes to Sunrise did for me.

Adam Geraghty

I heard about this artist through an email I received. The first thing that struck me was that he is Irish. I have quite deep Irish roots through my father so I love hearing about new Irish singers and I love being able to promote them and this one certainly is no exception.

Scarlett Parade

I must admit when I saw the name of this band in my inbox I thought this may just be another indie band of which there are hundreds out there these days. I am very happy to say I was completely and utterly wrong!!!

BAKER

I kept thinking over and over who does this artist sound like, what styles has he adopted? The thing is, BAKER is quite a rarity in the music industry at the moment. There is nothing generic about this artist and he seems to have put a spin on the dance genre to make it infectious yet enjoyable. He is stylish, he has a contemporary edge to him but at the same time there is a subtle undertone of something perhaps vintage in his music and looks.

One thing is for sure, his songs are very catchy and for all the right reasons, they have a good solid back beat, he makes you want to get up and dance to and they are perfect to cheer you up on a miserable rainy day.
