Anyone that knows me may know I really like my Scandinavian (especially Finnish) bands from The Rasmus to Nightwish. So imagine my surprise and delight when a friend from work introduced me to another Finnish band. Poets of the Fall formed in 2003 and have been writing and gigging ever since. You may not have heard their name but you may have already heard their debut single, Late Goodbye without realising it as it was written for the highly acclaimed video game, Max Payne 2.
They have achieved a lot in their home country form winning Best Finnish Act at the European MTV awards to having their first two albums go platinum in Finland. In fact, one of my favourite tracks of theirs, Carnival of Rust was the most played Finnish song of 2006 so clearly they have made a name for themselves in some parts of the world.
One thing I love about Scandinavian bands is their love of theatrics, whether it is their appearance, the music video or both; this band is no exception to that rule, just watch some of their videos. Their music style is similar to Sunrise Avenue although Poets of the Fall are quite a bit darker than their Finnish friends.
These Finnish rockers have toured in many different countries from Ukraine to the UK but the forthcoming dates tend to be sticking to Finland for the time being with the one off gigs in Russia and even India. However, you can keep up to date with Poets of the Fall here or like their facebook page here. Their last album was released in 2014 and have already announced that they are currently working on their 7th studio album so watch this space!
